Pampas grass

I’ve had an obsession with pampas grass for a little over a year now. I started seeing it pop up in the Instagram feeds of several brands/bloggers I follow and I was instantly hooked on its natural, boho vibe and amazing texture. I felt it perfectly complimented the mid/mod-scandi look I’ve been working to achieve in our new house. I needed to incorporate it ASAP.

It proved elusive (it was so expensive online or sellers didn’t ship to Canada - rude) for quite some time until a friend tipped me off to an Etsy shop that had reasonable prices (bless). Funny enough, the same friend let me know a few weeks ago that, according to the podcast My Dad Wrote a Porno, pampas grass has a secret meaning. Allegedly, back in the 70’s, swingers would plant pampas grass outside their homes to signal their inhibited status to fellow swingers.

Disclaimer: I am not a swinger, I just really like pampas grass.

Here’s how I’ve decorated with pampas grass in my house (emphasis on inside).

In my dining room

I ordered shorter pampas grass stems from Etsy to finish off a grouping of vases as the perfect centrepiece.

I ordered just one bunch, in the white colour. The stems were originally a bit longer but I trimmed them down so they could sit under the light fixture (which we’re considering lifting up about 6-12”, but that’s another story).

I was beyond ecstatic when my favourite flower shop, Fleurs, shared on their Instagram story a ton of pampas grass they’d just gotten in. I immediately went and bought three giant stems.

I love the subtle colour and super feathery texture of these longer stems. They filled out this floor case perfectly. Pro-tip: this grass sheds like mad, so to prevent endless vacuuming, give them a light spray with a flexible hold hairspray. Sanity saved.
